A Path Through Pain

DAY 13 OF 14

Unreliable Anchors

Think

It's a picture we can all relate to: desperately seeking something to hold on to in the stormy seas of life. More often than not, we gravitate toward anchors that appear promising, but eventually let us down. These are our "plastic anchors" – those things we believe will give us stability, but in truth, are as unreliable as a plastic bottle trying to hold down a ship.

In our search for security, we turn to career success, relationships, financial stability, or even our abilities. Yet, these are temporary and can be swept away in an instant. Only one anchor holds true in every season of life: God.

The promises of God, as detailed in Scripture, give us a foundation unlike any other. They aren't mere words, but guarantees backed by the integrity and character of God. It's impossible for him to lie. So, when he promises to be with us, to guide us, and to sustain us, he truly means it. And the beauty of this anchor is that it connects us not just to earthly security, but to eternal hope and peace in Christ.

Apply

Assess the anchors in your life. Are you placing your trust in “plastic bottles” that may leave you drifting aimlessly? If so, consider reorienting your focus toward Jesus, our loving Lord and the true anchor for our souls. Discover his promises in Scripture, and remind yourself daily of the unshakeable hope that can be found in him. Join a Bible study or group in your local church to dig deeper into understanding and embracing Jesus as your anchor.

Pray

Father, I confess that I often seek security in fleeting things. Help me anchor my soul in you, the only true and steadfast source of security. Let your promises be my guiding light, and may I always find hope and peace in your unwavering love. In Jesus' name. Amen.
