Mantled for Greatness

DAY 1 OF 5

Big Dreams Begin Small

Even though our small storefront church could barely fit sixty chairs in the sanctuary, we saw miracles and conversions during our services. We held all-night prayer services and witnessed God answering those prayers. God’s presence was tangible in this place! On one occasion, a handful of us were praying when I heard God say, “I’m sending you to the nations.”

I thought to myself, “Our church is so small; it’s just a few of us. How are we going to go to the nations from a storefront church?”

It was then the Holy Spirit began teaching me about faith. God was showing me that the impact of your reach is not predicated on the size of your ministry. Despite the odds and human logic, God raised up a global ministry from what some would have considered a hole-in-the-wall building. I learned an important lesson: The size of your building, ministry, and finances is not important. The size of your faith is what really matters.

Throughout history, the early Church saw growth happen organically. Gathering in homes, in the marketplace, and on street corners, ordinary people learned about an extraordinary God. The same kind of expansion will happen in our day through small churches, small groups, and family units. Small is the new big.

  • Thriving yet intimate small churches can be houses of prayer and healing for believers to experience to spiritual health and wholeness.
  • Small groups, or gatherings of around ten to twelve people, consist of believers encouraging one another in the Word, eating together, and just simply “doing life” with one another.
  • Before God created and instituted the Church, He created the family unit. Families make up the foundation for everything in our world and are the one entity that intersects with every single facet of society.

What starts small in your life will become mega. Mega comes from the Greek word megas. It is defined as “larger,” “mighty,” “greater.” I believe that God is mantling individuals to carry “greater.” Think of a situation God has put you in that feels overwhelming — as though you are carrying something too big to handle. Is it possible that your dream is supposed to be bigger than you to make you wholly reliant on God?

Write down a few dreams that you have left unattended. Then take time to pray concerning these dreams. Ask God to take a small dream He has placed within you and develop it into something great for His Kingdom.
