Discovery: Being Called

God doesn’t have a biblical history of being biased in who He calls to follow Him and who He doesn’t.

Whether it's a complicated fisherman, an overzealous pharisee, or just a mere pile of dirt, all throughout history God is always calling humanity to Himself, for His glory, and the betterment of His creation.

If we just look at Peter, Paul, or Adam and Eve, we can see that the Lord took considerable measures to assure that His voice was cutting through all of life’s noise to both being heard and understood by who He was speaking to. Circumstantially, it looked different for each of them, as it does for all of us.

Peter fished for a living and was called by Jesus to follow Him. Paul was a persecutor of Christians. It took Jesus, literally, striking him blind, but not even venomous piety and physical restrictions were enough to block out hearing the Lord’s calling. The mere existence of Adam and Eve came from God speaking them into existence and, even in shame and hiding, He still called for them.

If you are sensing that the Lord is trying to get your attention, biblical history tells us that He probably is. If you sense He requires you to have more self-control or to be more trusting in Him for the seemingly small and big things, He probably is.

Jesus is always calling us — all of us. Particularly in ways that simultaneously are familiar and foreign at the same time. Let's not spend much time trying to disprove God's call for us as we have much to consider and respond to.

Questions to ponder:

1. What brings me the deepest sense of fulfillment, joy, and alignment with God's values and purposes?
2. How can I use my unique gifts, talents, and passions to make a positive impact in the lives of others and contribute to the kingdom of God?
