One Perfect Plan: The Bible's Big Story in Tiny PoemsSample
Day 4: Jesus, Our Savior
One angel–
appears to the Virgin Mary:
“A Savior comes; whom you shall carry.”
One child–
Jesus grows into a man.
God’s precious gift and salvation plan.
Two fish–
yes, two, plus five loaves of bread;
Christ fees the masses as word of Him spreads.
Do you have any good news to share today? Is there anything happening at home or school that you’re excited about? Think about how fast news spreads now. You’ve probably seen older friends or cousins looking at their cell phones often; they even get “pinged” to tell them a message has arrived.
Now, think about how the news of Jesus’ coming birth was told. First, Isaiah foretold the news long before Jesus was born. Then angels carried the news to Jesus’ mother, Mary, telling her she’d have a son who would save the world. An angel also told the shepherds to travel to the humble stable where Jesus was born. By watching the stars, the wise men knew where to visit Jesus as a boy.
Years later, when Jesus grew up, He began His ministry, and word of Jesus spread as people talked about the miracles He performed. One time, when Jesus was preaching near the Sea of Galilee, five thousand people (more if we count women and children) were miraculously fed with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Thankfully, good news is something we can still share! Maybe your friends want to hear more about Jesus.
Question: How can you share Jesus’ love with others? Could you draw a picture or pick a flower for someone else? Your love might remind them of God’s love.
Prayer: Dear God, help me think of someone who might need to know about Your love for them today. Teach me to tell them about You and Your goodness. Amen.
