One Perfect Plan: The Bible's Big Story in Tiny PoemsSample
Day 2: The Fall
One world—
now broken as sin enters in.
How will our Father restore it again?
One serpent—
he says, “You surely won’t die.”
A bite of the fruit, reveals Satan’s lie.
One God—
whose plan is perfect and true—
will bring new life to me and to you.
Sometimes, in the middle of a perfectly wonderful day, you might fall down–SPLAT! Maybe it’s at the park, on a slide, or running to get the mail, but it can happen quickly. In the book of Genesis, a different kind of fall happens in the Garden of Eden. It’s called “The Fall,” and it’s far worse than a small tumble. But what brought about this giant change? After all, God loved Adam and Eve so much that He created an entire garden for them to enjoy.
Imagine a place so wondrous, full of flowers and waterfalls and animals of all kinds, a place where God “walked in the garden in the cool of the day.” In that garden, there were two special trees. One was the Tree of Life, from which they could eat anytime. The other tree, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, was the only one God commanded them not to eat from, or they would surely die.
Well, guess what? Adam and Eve failed their test. Satan said, “You surely won’t die” if you eat from the tree, and they believed his humongous lie. This sin led to our separation from God and a broken world. Despite this terrible mistake, God planned to provide a way back for them so that we might live in a Heavenly place again.
Question: If you created your own garden or park, what would you put in it? What would you keep it?
Prayer: Dear God, will You walk with me today and talk with me, in the way You did with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden? I’m glad I can pray and talk to You any time of day and You will listen.
