Identity: Becoming The True YouSample
Guilt-Free
I stood there in the shower, pouring on and scrubbing excessive soap against my skin over and over. I was trying, in vain, to wash away my sins. There I stood, shaming myself. Guilt bore down on me like the weight of a thousand worlds. I knew it was helpless, yet still I scrubbed. I knew the cleanser of sin was the only one who could make me clean again. But would he? Time passed and my guilt grew. As my guilt grew, I became numb to feeling. I shut off my heart. I shut out God. The devil had me right where he wanted me: alone and separated. I was a lost sheep, waiting for the shepherd, but never really believing he would rescue me.
The enemy is cunning. He studies every move, and every action. He is an expert on human nature and the flawed heart: he knows it is susceptible to deceit and distorted truth. He watches and waits for us to make the perfect mistake. When the opportunity presents itself, he takes his shot. Sin is committed. Guilt pierces the soul like a bullet. The conscious become stained in crimson regret. That is his greatest tactic: separating our heart from God’s heart through guilt. Guilt is the foundation of the separated heart. “I hurt God. I disobeyed Him. He will surely leave me now.” These are lies from the one who breathes deceit – the accuser of brethren.
God is patient. He is forgiving. He seeks out the one who is separated from the flock. He never relents! He does so not because he has to, but because He desires you. It is who He is. He doesn’t want guilt to separate your heart from His.
Daughter, your sin is forgiven. He has cleansed you. He took your sin upon Himself and made you pure. You are free from guilt. Every morning His mercies are new.
Believe that. Know his truth. Know who He is. It is finished. It is done. Resist the lies of the enemy. Tear down the wall of guilt and shame between you and God. Stop believing His love for you can be lessened. Set your eyes upon the cross, repent, and sin no more. Enter His throne room with a repentant heart—not because you want to be guilt-free, but because, in Him, you are already guilt-free.
