Marvel at the Moon

DAY 1 OF 7

Marvelous Moon Maker

If you could jump in a car and drive to the Moon, guess how long it would take you? Almost six months! And that’s with no snack breaks! Even though that big, bright full Moon might look like it’s close, it’s actually about 240,000 miles away from Earth. When you did finally reach the moon, you’d be in for a bumpy landing. The Moon’s surface has been hit by so many meteoroids that it’s covered with rocks, a powdery dust made from the bashed-up bits of rock, and huge craters. (One is so big the entire Grand Canyon could fit inside!) Scientists and astronauts (who really did travel to the Moon, but not in a car) have learned a lot about the Moon. But there’s one big question they haven’t answered: How did the Moon get there?

People have all kinds of theories. Some say it’s a piece of Earth that broke off long ago. Others say another planet crashed into Earth and all the rubble lumped together to make the Moon. Some even say Earth stole the Moon from Venus! But I’ll tell you what the Bible says. You only have to read a few verses in Genesis 1 before you discover that the Moon had a maker: God. He made the Moon, the Sun, the Earth, and everything in it. And, yeah, He also made you and me. So tonight, look up at the Moon and imagine just how marvelous our God must be!

God, You are so awesome! You made the moon! Nobody else could Ever do anything like that. Every time I see it, I will think of You and say, “Thanks for making me too.” Amen.
