Sleep Psalms: 14 Nightly Moments of Mindfulness & Rest

DAY 13 OF 14

In the silence of the night when your mind is not distracted from the day, it is easy to feel anxious and replay moments of stress or regret in your mind. In these moments, there is comfort and strength in God's Word to remind you that He will deliver you from whatever you face. Your heart will once again rejoice.

As you relax and settle your body down, close your eyes and quiet your mind. Breathe deeply and exhale the stresses of today. Focus on the greatness of God and the tender love He has for you. He has been faithful in the past, and He will be faithful to you now. Allow your thoughts to rest in knowing it is okay to cry out to God with all that's on your heart. He wants to hear from you; He is ready to receive your burdens. This psalm brings this to light with these beautiful, heartfelt cries to which we can all relate.

How long, LORD? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, LORD my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, "I have overcome him,"
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in Your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in Your salvation.
I will sing the LORD's praise,
for He has been good to me.
PSALM 13

ADORATION: No matter what difficulties we face, we can take delight in God's Word. It is trustworthy and reassuring, especially when life doesn't make sense. Worship the Lord for the gift of comfort we have when we read His loving words to us. Praise Him for reminding us that we are not alone. He is with us every step of our way, and we can rest assured that His timing and His ways are perfect.

CONFESSION: Think of a time when you struggled with waiting on God's timing and you took matters into your own hands, when you looked to the things of this world to give you joy and satisfaction. Ask God to help you be patient and wait for His timing. He will help you find joy in Him alone.

THANKSGIVING: Praise God for the prayers He has answered in your past. Praise Him for all the good things that make your life rich and meaningful now. Thank God for the gift of eternal life He freely offers to you today.

SUPPLICATION: Father, I'm so comforted to know I can always turn to You when my heart is troubled and anxious thoughts overtake me. I cast them into Your hands now and ask that You hear my cry for help. Give me patience to wait on You to act on my behalf and to guide me one day at a time in the way You have for me. Protect me tonight; cover me with Your tender loving care. In Jesus' name. Amen.
