Life or Death: the Power to ChooseSample

Life or Death: the Power to Choose

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5: Serve Choice

If Jesus made serving a priority, shouldn’t we? If He declared serving (not being served) as a reason He came, shouldn’t we perform acts of service as second nature? Maybe it doesn’t come as naturally for some as it does for others, but that isn’t really the point is it? Serving is an outward expression of an inner heart condition. If serving isn’t the default lens through which we view life, it’s never too late to learn and create new habits. However, it requires a different perspective of our role within the Kingdom of God; a perspective that must be actively CHOSEN.

It’s a choice to see the needs of others before our own. It’s a choice to make sacrifices for others. Once sin entered the garden, we became a sinful, selfish, depraved, broken species. We became more focused on our own wants, needs, and desires. The choice to serve in a humble and Christ-like capacity hinges upon a tender heart for others and on purposefully identifying their needs. Jesus said in Mark 9:35, “he who wants to be first, will be last of all and servant of all.” This is our Hallmark verse here at Last In Line Leadership. It’s the foundation on which our ministry was built.

True servants find a need and step into the moment. True serving with the right heart proactively performs random acts of kindness, with no return in mind. True servants do not live by the mantra of “what’s in it for me.” Small things make a big impact. Each day begins with a decision and a choice to either serve or be served. This choice requires effort and identifying opportunities to serve someone else. In turn, the Kingdom principle of sowing and reaping are inevitably in motion. What we sow, we will reap. As we choose to exhibit a heart of service, we will be blessed and served in return. It’s a proven principle and one that we must choose in order to align with the heart of Christ.

Get honest:

In what areas can you be a more intentional servant?
