GOD Over Everything - 3-Day Devotional to Stay on Track With GODSample
GOD OVER TEMPTATION
Surely we know that we can not avoid temptation. When we are tempted, no one should say that GOD is tempting them. For GOD cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone. Then where does temptation come from? James 1:14 says that each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
Temptation allows you to choose between good or bad, flesh or spirit. When tempted, your choices will enable you to draw closer to GOD or further away. He doesn't move; we usually do due to sin or condemnation. Unworthiness sits in, and before long, we are returning to that temptation that gave birth to sin, and when sin is fully developed, it gives birth to death.
Some temptations aren't as easy as one may think to resist, but the Bible says that GOD will always provide a way of escape. During moments of temptation, you are standing in the middle with the way of escape on one side and your temptation on the other. The more you are in GOD by being in your Word, going to church, and being surrounded by people who can hold you accountable, the easier it becomes to choose the way of escape.
You may be tempted in your flesh, but the spirit wins the victory first.
The more you learn to use prayer as your weapon, the easier it becomes to resist temptation and win the battle. The Word tells us that men should always pray. Your prayer may sound different from the religious customs you've been familiar with. Prayer is simply a conversation with GOD.
There were times that I ran from prayer. I felt condemned by my inability to resist temptation, and the more I failed, the more I didn't pray. And the enemy planned to use those times to present me with more and more temptation to pull me further away from GOD. Now I realize that it is in failure that we recognize His power and love; and our strength. It's His love for you that covers a multitude of sins.
When you feel powerless and tempted on every side, make a different decision, move accordingly, and lean into GOD through prayer. It’s GOD Over Everything.
Prayer this prayer:
You came to earth and became flesh so that you might experience what I am going through today. Have mercy on me and may your grace abound more and more with me. What I am facing right now, I know that I can not win on my own. But I rest in you, knowing that through your spirit that lives within me, I have the power to overcome it. I activate that power inside me right now to resist the enemy, and he will flee from me as I draw closer to you in Jesus' name. Amen
