Created To Create

I love watching kids play in the sand at the beach. They can keep themselves occupied with a shovel and a bucket for hours. And I love seeing their faces after their work in the sand is complete. Whether it’s a sand castle, a hole, or an animal, kids get so excited at their creation in the sand.

Kids learn to play and create at an early age, but God designed all of us to create. God is the creator of all things on this Earth. Since we were created in God’s image, God created each one of us to create.

I used to think only some people received the gift to be creative. It’s obvious that those who sing songs, play an instrument, or paint masterpieces have a creative gifting. But God has gifted each one of us with the gift of creativity. He has called each one of us to create and build things in this world for his glory.

God gives us wisdom and ideas, and we are called to build and bring these ideas to life. We create works of art in the kitchen, we build atmospheres and teams at work, and we build the church when we serve and use our gifts.

Just because you don’t build like the person next to you doesn’t mean you aren’t creative. It means God has called you to build something else, and that’s a good thing.

What would happen if we all had the same gifts? Who would create the next sermon? Who would write the next bestselling book? And who would raise a family of God-loving children?

Imagine yourself sitting on a beach, playing in the sand. What is God putting on your heart to create?

Prayer

God, you are the ultimate artist and creator. Thank you for creating me in your image, and thank you for the gifts, talents, and passions you’ve given me. I pray you speak to me, and show me what you want me to create in this world for your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
