The Defiant LifeSample
Defy Experience
You may not have the experience or qualifications to do the things that God calls you to do. I’ve heard it said that God does not call the qualified, but he qualifies the called. David had no experience on the battlefield. His resume demonstrated his skills in tending sheep and fighting off wild animals. He had no real battle experience. But God made a warrior out of him. In Psalm 144:1, David says of the Lord, “He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.”
Don’t disqualify yourself or discredit yourself for your lack of experience. When you walk with God, it becomes on-the-job training in most cases. Moses had no experience leading a nation, which is why God kept reassuring him that he would be with him. Similarly, Joshua had no experience leading the army of Israel into battle, but God assured him that he would be with him. God’s assurance of his presence allows us to step out into the unknown and operate in areas without experience.
There were moments in my life when God would open job opportunities for me that I didn’t have the experience to undertake. In fear and trepidation, I would step out with God on my side, desperately clinging to him so he would help me. My inexperience kept me on my knees in prayer, but God always showed up. Sometimes not in the manner or timing that I expected, but he showed up, nonetheless. Our lack of experience often works in our favor as we rely less on our human effort because we have no basis for standing on. Instead, you rely on God, which teaches you humility and ultimately allows you to give glory to God because apart from him, you can do nothing. Never let the lack of experience disqualify you from stepping out and doing what God has called you to do. God has enough experience to cover for your lack of experience. So, take on the challenge and step into the unknown as you boldly do things you have never done before. Always remember, God is with you, God is for you, and God lives in you.
About this Plan
It’s easy to go with the flow, but it takes a great deal of boldness and conviction to swim upstream and be defiant. The defiant life is driven by conviction and refuses to conform to the standards of this world. This plan explores seven key areas that you will need to defy at some point in your life as you walk in your God-given purpose.
