The Defiant Life

DAY 2 OF 8

Defy Age

So often, we buy into the myth that we are either too young or too old. This justifies our position not to step out and do what we know God has called us to do. The prophet Jeremiah was young when God called him, but Jeremiah initially refused based on his age. God said to Jeremiah, “Don’t say ‘I am too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you” (Jer. 1:7). God did mighty things through Jeremiah, further proving that our age is not a barrier to God unless we make it a barrier. God will work with you whether you are young or old. It’s your availability and willingness to obey that are critical. God can work with a yielded vessel despite age. David is proof positive that, with God, even mere boys can bring down giants. Caleb is proof that even older men can conquer new ground. In the book of Joshua, we read the story of how Caleb, at the age of eighty-five, had the will, strength, and courage to go into battle and take the land Moses had given him as his inheritance forty-five years earlier. Caleb could have talked himself out of his inheritance by virtue of his age because seldom do old men go to war to fight. But Caleb always had a different spirit that defied the odds against him and resulted in him being victorious in the battles he fought. We can do outstanding things that defy our age, whether we are young or old, with the help of God. What are you saying about your age?

About this Plan

The Defiant Life

It’s easy to go with the flow, but it takes a great deal of boldness and conviction to swim upstream and be defiant. The defiant life is driven by conviction and refuses to conform to the standards of this world. This plan explores seven key areas that you will need to defy at some point in your life as you walk in your God-given purpose.
