Three of the most overwhelming, indescribable moments of my life, when I couldn’t contain my emotions, were the moments I first laid eyes on my sons. Tiny, fragile, helpless human beings. Naked, cold, hungry and exhausted. It was obvious they simply would not survive without me. (Ok, we all know it’s my wife who keeps them alive.) Add to their frailty the fact that they bore my name, and the connection was even stronger. There is nothing that could separate them from my love.

In The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis tells the story of Shasta, a boy who grew up in the home of a cruel fisherman. Unsure of his own history, Shasta at least knows the fisherman is not his father. He escapes and goes on an incredible journey, meeting a young Prince who looks identical to him and developing a close friendship with him. When he meets his friend’s father, the King, he is embraced by the King who, through tears, reveals that one of his twin boys was kidnapped as an infant. Shasta realizes he’s been a prince his entire life, his dear friend is his brother and this King is his loving father! Shasta was lost, but he became found.

We are all created in God’s image! God says that even though a mother may forget the baby she nursed (highly unlikely), He will never forget us! That’s even more unlikely! He has engraved our names in the palms of His hands and declares, “I have called you by name, you are Mine!” We were made to belong to our Father.
