Blossoming Season - Godly Dating

DAY 5 OF 5

Perfect Timing

Psalm 1:1-3

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”

Springtime is the ideal time for growth, both in nature and in our spiritual lives. During this season, the elements combine to create a surge of growth in plants as the rains, warmth, and sunlight nourish them. Similarly, you can intentionally foster spiritual growth by providing your soul with the sustenance it needs: spending time alone with God in His word, being part of a vibrant Christian fellowship, and delighting in the Lord above all else.

God blesses those who delight in Him and His word. He causes them to be prosperous in His will for their lives. If you live your life to honor God and date to glorify God, you can trust that He will be with you and help you thrive on your journey, like a tree planted by the stream that blooms in its season.

As you walk with God and trust Him to guide you as you meet new people, you will not only experience more joy, peace, and growth in yourself and your relationship with Him, but you might even find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

Six First Date Ideas for Spring

As you take these ideas, lessons, and principles from scripture and apply them to your life during this season, here are six first date ideas for spring to enjoy God’s creation with someone new:

  1. Go on a walk among the wildflowers–and marvel at how God causes them to bloom even after a long, cold winter (Song of Solomon 2:11-12).
  2. Go on a coffee shop date (especially if it’s rainy)–and be reminded that as surely as the rain will come, God will be with you on your dating journey (Hosea 6:3).
  3. Have a picnic in the park–and enjoy the lush green surroundings, birds singing, and renewal that’s happening in nature–much like the renewing of your spirit God provides (Psalm 51:10).
  4. Take a bike ride–and remind yourself of the importance of not giving up but leaning into God when things get hard (like your dating life or the bike ride) (Matthew 6:28-30).
  5. Hike to a waterfall–and experience how the winter season refreshes the water, causing it to flow even more vibrantly, just like God can cause your dating season to become vibrant after a long “winter season” (Psalm 51:10).
  6. Enjoy a sunrise or sunset–and experience how God creates new beginnings every day in nature, just like He can in your dating life when you trust His perfect timing and will (Psalm 1:1-3).

The spring season often brings feelings of freshness and new beginnings, which can be a wonderful time to start dating. Rather than getting anxious about the unknowns that may lie ahead, you can use it as an opportunity to enjoy getting to know someone while trusting God’s timing and provision. Take moments during this season to appreciate simplicity, practice trust in God–who already knows what's best for you–and focus on living, loving, and dating in a way that honors Him.
