Becoming a Son That Pleases the FatherSample
TWO PHASES OF THE CHRISTIAN WALK (1)
In Matthew 3:17, John the Baptist saw the first human being who obtained divine approval before ever starting in ministry. After receiving the word, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”, from the Lord (as I mentioned on the first day of this devotional), I began to meditate upon it to find out what God was trying to say. God showed me that this sentence depicts His pattern, plan, and requirement for every one of His children. As a Christian, becoming a son that pleases the Father should be your personal goal and pursuit spiritually.
The Lord showed me two distinct statements from that sentence that connote two phases of a Christian’s walk. The first part of the statement, “This is my beloved son”, deals with our relationship with the Father while the second part, “…in whom I am well pleased”, deals with pleasing the Father.
This identifies the two phases for us:
Phase 1 – Establishing a relationship with the Father
Phase 2 – Pleasing the Father
Which phase are you in? This scripture divides humanity and the Body of Christ into two classes:
Class 1 – The sons of God
Class 2 – Strangers to the family of God
A man may be attending church but is not yet a son or a daughter of God. When a man is not born again, he has absolutely no relationship with God. Not only that, but such a man is also a son of Satan spiritually. Every believer today was like that before the encounter of salvation. There is no good sinner because all sinners are dead in sin and trespasses as the scriptures explain (Eph. 2:1-3).
ACTION POINT: If you are unsure of your salvation status, take this prayer. Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus, I know that I’m a sinner and I cannot save myself. But Jesus died for me, that I might be saved; today I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour. Forgive me all my sins and wash me with Your blood and make me whole, I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Amen!
