David - Faithful Servant, Friend and King

DAY 6 OF 15

David served King Saul in the palace, and it didn’t take long for David to become best friends with the king’s son Jonathan. Even though David grew up looking after sheep in Bethlehem and Jonathan grew up in the palace, they became the closest of friends. As a sign of their friendship, Jonathan took off his robe and gave it to David, then gave him his sword, bow, arrows, and belt.

He was successful in whatever Saul sent David to do, so Saul gave him an important job in his army. Soon David became more popular than Saul, and crowds cheered for David. This made King Saul jealous and angry, and he began hunting David down trying to get rid of him.

Jonathan promised to help his friend, and he and David made a plan. David would wait outside the city while Jonathan could find out for sure that his father wanted to hurt him. During a celebration, it became clear to Jonathan that Saul intended to kill David. Jonathan chose to help his friend escape. They were faithful friends.
