David - Faithful Servant, Friend and King

DAY 9 OF 15

When you’re in a new environment, making new friends can feel a bit scary. Or think about it this way, when someone new comes to your school, church, or sporting team, do you help ensure they are welcomed and be their friend? Making new friends is all about being kind, being a good listener, being interested in them, and asking good questions. You can encourage others, help them and share with them.

No one is perfect; sometimes, even our best friends can hurt our feelings. The Bible tells us to be kind and to forgive each other. If a friend hurts our feelings, we can let them know and that we forgive them. Often people don’t set out to hurt our feelings on purpose, so letting someone know and mending the relationship shows kindness and forgiveness. It may be that we have hurt someone’s feelings; we can say sorry, apologise and accept our friend’s forgiveness.

The Bible also tells us that it’s wise to think about who we are close friends with. If someone keeps mistreating us or others, we might need to make good choices about that friendship. In the same way bad traits can be contagious, so can good traits! We can be the kind of friend that spreads love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control - the fruit of God’s spirit in us.
