The Jesus Focus
Perhaps while growing up, you heard the words "stay focused," meaning to keep whatever you were working on at the center of your activity and energy. But, unfortunately, some Christians have become "strayed focused," meaning their focus quickly shifts to whatever strikes their interest at the moment.
Oh, they see the promise in God's Word of where He wants to take them, what He wants to do with them, and how He desires to bless them. However, their desire to gain ground or mature in their walk becomes impossible because they keep looking back to where they’ve been. Sadly these "strayed focused" people give their time, talents, and energies to things that become an absolute wasteland, bearing no fruit, fatally unproductive!
One of the greatest instructions on HOW to stay focused is found in Philippians 3, where Paul says, "I focus on this one thing, forgetting the past by looking forward.” “Looking forward” doesn't only mean envisioning the future; it’s also a place or state of anticipation where you’re ”looking forward” to what God is about to do in your life!
In Hebrews 12, we learn that Jesus was focused on the “Joy set before Him,” but did you know that you were His joy, His focus? Think of it like this; as Jesus walked up Golgotha Hill, your face flashed within His mind. You were His focus, and you still are. Your redemption and eternal life were His focus, paying for your eternal redemption.
Everything the enemy threw at Christ was meant to give him "strayed focus,” but He never lost His purpose. He stayed focused and paid the price. Please understand the enormity of the price the Father paid by sending his Son. Then know that the Father wants you to have what He already paid for. Keeping that in mind will help you stay focused through all the things the enemy throws at you.
An acronym for focus to help keep you focused: FIXATING ON CHRIST’S ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. Focusing on Jesus and what He did keeps the things you sometimes sacrifice in their proper perspective.
Reflection: You shouldn’t drive your car forward by looking in the rearview mirror. Neither should you focus on what’s behind you; instead, focus on what’s ahead, His plan, purpose, and direction.
