Ancestry & God

Most of us are a combination of multiple nationalities and cultures. Our family trees have multiple branches from diverse backgrounds. My genes are comprised of four different bloodlines that originated in four different countries. That lineage comprises our physical DNA and creates the bloodline, tracing back to our family’s heritage. In addition to our physical traits and characteristics, often, our behavior and beliefs are derived from a family standard that was formed by generations that preceded us.

Thankfully, our Spiritual DNA is independent of where our family tree was rooted and the branches, thereof. Our Heavenly Father knew everything about us before the beginning of the world. Who we are in Christ was established long ago and I, for one, am grateful that my identity begins and ends with who God says I am. Thankfully, I’m not defined by a familial wives' tale told for decades about my Sicilian, great-great uncle Vinnie on my mother’s side. I may have gotten my nose from his side of the family, but my spiritual character is born in the image of our creator. We aren’t defined by our earthly descendants and certainly not by a chemical conglomerate of genes that mark our ancestry.

This Bible plan will remind us of where we truly come from and what/who truly defines us. My desire is that we all gain a clear understanding of the greatness within each of us, according to God’s design and dream for us his children. You will be encouraged by the names, titles, and labels our Heavenly Father assigned to us before we were assigned to the world. Labels are powerful and empowering when they originate from a God who is our source of life and love. As we discover and digest who and whose we are, the hope is that we will all see our roles through a new lens of possibilities.
