What are God’s commands as it relates to love? God’s word states in 2 John 1:6 “And this is love; that we walk in obedience to his commands.  As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” God clearly identifies to us to keep his commandments, and one is abstaining from sexual immorality.  Additionally, He instructs us on what to do when anything or anyone attempts to set itself up against the knowledge of God and that is to demolish it by taking captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

When someone implies to the idea that engaging in sex before marriage or outside of marriage proves your love for them, remember what God’s word says. God’s commandments are to protect and cover us in every area of our lives. It is to our greatest advantage to obey what God has commanded and debunk every myth with the word of God. Don’t allow the negative influences of this world to warp your view of what God has ordered you to do.  

Don’t allow the actions of others and the patterns of what the world is doing to distort your spiritual sight and knowledge of God’s protection, blessing, and plan for your life.  We live in a fast-paced, sex-crazed society and if one does not actively renew their mind and walk in the armor of God daily, one might begin to accept what God deems unacceptable. Don’t tolerate what God finds intolerable. Don’t condone what God condemns. 

God knows who we will befriend today and unfriend tomorrow. God knows who we will like today and dislike tomorrow. God knows who we believe we will marry today and who he has already prepared us for and will marry in his timing. It is wise to follow God’s commands because you will grow in wisdom and see clearly who supports your growing relationship with God and who does not.   

Sex outside of marriage doesn’t equate to love, no matter how much you believe you like someone. Real love is not self-seeking but always seeks to keep and live according to all of God’s commands. Ask God for wisdom and strength and boldly stand for Christ intentionally walking the path of spiritual purity. God has the best for you. Will you obediently receive the blessing?
