Echo of God

DAY 4 OF 8

Echo of Love

What comes to your mind when you think of your father? Maybe you don't even know him. Nevertheless, what do you feel? Many people associate God with their father. Their image of God strongly resembles the experiences they have had with their father. But even if your father was the world's best dad, God is different from what you think. He is love through and through. He doesn't just do something loving. Furthermore, he is love. Everything in him. Every cell. Even every breath contains love.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to bring his love into this world. Jesus makes clear what he means by this in Luke 6: "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who ill-treat you."

His idea of love is radical! And he not only says it, but he also shows it on the cross. Paul writes about it in Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Do you understand? God proved His love for you before you even existed. Nothing can diminish His love for you. God loves you as you are. With all your faults and quirks. And he gives you the chance to change.

To accept his love is to receive forgiveness. Returning God's love means being His echo of love. Undoubtedly, you can't love as perfectly as God. But even if it is attenuated or distorted, an echo always remains the image of the original sound. Likewise, your love for others reflects what Jesus did for you.
