Face to Face With Jesus - a Lenten MeditationSample
A gentile woman from the land of Canaan understood the idea of grace long before the Jewish race could begin to comprehend it. Jesus didn’t speak to insult her, even though it comes across as harsh and unconcerned, instead, he’s triggering her to articulate her faith. In this articulation, Jesus uses the imagery of food meant for children being tossed to the dogs, for which she says that the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the Master’s table. This understanding that she possesses of Jesus as her Master, sprung Jesus into action on her behalf, offering her something even though she knew she didn’t deserve it.
There are many times when we don’t know why we are asking God for something, or we ask Him with the wrong motives. It’s in this kind of verbalizing, that we can understand what we are believing for, and where any doubts lie about the power, presence and plans of God. We also realize just how dependent yet undeserving we are of his love, forgiveness and healing.
Questions to ask yourself
How can I better articulate my faith in preparation to share it with someone?
Is Jesus my master? Do I serve Him or should he serve me?
