The Daily Grind of the SeasonSample
Entitlement
Entitlement, that’s a title that will preach. It will preach in our world and the officiating community. The world, news, social media and many other platforms say we are entitled to be entitled. But God’s word says differently.
2 Thessalonians 3:10, “for even when we share with you, we gave you this rule. If a man will not work he shall not eat.”
Ever felt entitled to a certain assignment or opportunity? Something from a family member you feel you deserve? Or time that you think you should have?
Unfortunately, we are not a bible based or lead country. Entitlement fuels our country and the world. Why do we think God owes us? Why do we think our coordinator owes us? We exist to honor & follow God. Not the other way around. Knowing God is better than knowing all the answers.
Here are five ways we can honor God that will help us eliminate feeling entitled during the Daily Grind of the Season.
- Honor God with your time - How are you using the precious time you have been given to glorify God? See Psalms 144:4, Isaiah 58:13-14, and Colossians 4:5.
- Honor God with your talents – These are your God-given gifts and abilities. See Matthew 25:14-30.
- Honor God with your temple – This means your body. See 1 Corinthians 6:18-20.
- Honor God with your treasure – This means your finances. As Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). See Proverbs 3:9 and Malachi 3:10.
- Honor God with your ticker – This means your heart. There are many Bible verses that encourage us to make God number one in our heart. See Isaiah 29:13, Proverbs 3:5, Proverbs 4:23, Proverbs 23:26, and Psalm 51:10.
About this Plan
Being a Christian can be similar to being a sports official. Striving for perfection but coming up short. Trust the system. Trust the process. Trust your gut, trust your training. Sound familiar? How many of us hear that or self-talk those reminders during our game. All of these are great reminders and processes to becoming a successful official. But we need to remember, it’s the Holy Spirit we should be listening to in those locker rooms, car rides, dinners and hotel rooms.
