Theology for Everybody: Romans

DAY 98 OF 365

Start Here: Faith Comes First for You

The writer of Hebrews tells us, “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (11:1). Everyone trusts someone or something. This is the secular language for the biblical concept of faith. When you get medicine for a sickness, you trust the doctor has made the correct diagnosis, the pharmaceutical company has conducted the correct research, and the pharmacist has filled the correct prescription. When you fly on an airplane, you trust the engineer knew how to make one, the mechanic certified it, and the pilot was properly trained to fly it. When you marry your spouse, you trust they will be faithful to you for the rest of your life. We exercise faith in people and things all the time. So, the questions are:

-Is God worthy of our trust? -Is He trustworthy?

-Is God worthy of our faith? -Is He faithful?

The first step to answering these questions is to find God’s will. You find God’s will by getting a word from Him and spending time in His Word. As things in the world get darker and bleaker, things in Scripture need to get clearer and louder. In addition, you must spend more time praying, journaling, fasting, and worshipping. You need a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit, as Jesus had a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. You don’t know the future, but God does. You can’t prepare for an unknown future, but you can follow a God who has a future prepared for you.

Today’s Reflection

Do you have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit? Do you trust Him with your future?
