Theology for Everybody: RomansSample

(Continued from Day 101)
7. Our God makes dead people alive. "But the words 'it was counted to him' were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification" (vv. 23–25).
Like milk in the refrigerator, the world’s most renowned religious leaders have an expiration date.
Buddha is dead.
Mohammed is dead.
Krishna is dead.
Gandhi is dead.
The same is true of the world’s most renowned political leaders, who changed the earth until they were buried six feet under it.
Napoleon is dead.
Churchill is dead.
Washington is dead.
Lincoln is dead.
Great leaders can serve to help us while they live, and they even continue to serve as an example for us after their lives come to an end. However, they are not able to help us once they die. History has one exception: Jesus Christ. He lived a perfect life as our example. He died in our place for our sins to repay the debt God counted against us. Then He rose from death, conquering sin and death. From His throne in heaven, Jesus intercedes for us, declaring us just and justified in the sight of God. Religion tells us what we should do for God. Redemption tells us what God has done for us.
When we pray, we pray to a living Jesus. When we sing, we sing to a living Jesus. When we transfer burdens, we transfer them to a living, helping, burden-bearing Jesus. When we’re confused, we invite a living Jesus to instruct, lead, and guide us. When we look at a fear-filled future, we invite a living Jesus to fill us with faith. When we don’t know what to do, we ask the living Jesus because He knows exactly what to do. When we don’t know what the future holds, we invite the living Jesus, who holds the future. Everyone believes in someone or something. Do you believe in Jesus? This is the most important decision you will ever make.
