Hope, Justice, And Living Life To The Full

DAY 10 OF 30

“Dhandevi’s Story of Justice”

Bonded labor may not come with chains, but debt slavery is every bit as hard to escape. Ten years ago, everyone who lived in Shivnagar village was a slave. It was an injustice that survived for generations. This changed when they were set free; however, without education or training, or any access to healthcare, their future remained bleak.

Dhandevi is one of the former slaves who lives in Shivnagar, western Nepal. With her husband away in India seeking work, Dhandevi has had to supply the daily needs of her three young children. She is a determined and resourceful woman.

Tearfund, a Christ-centered international humanitarian agency, partnered with a Nepalese non-profit in Sagoal to run an animal scheme as a part of a church mobilization training and support program.

The local church gave Dhandevi a pig to rear. It produced piglets which were sold, and through this she started a bicycle repair business from home. “Without the work of the church, it would not have been possible to start my business or for my children to start school.”

In the midst of these successes, Dhandevi and her fellow villagers are still seeking justice. They still do not own the land they live on, even though it was promised to them as compensation by the government.

Reflect:

The church is God’s master plan and we are called to bring his kingdom on earth. The church should be of one heart because there is one body and one Spirit. Two hearts in one body would be disastrous. The community of faith is the body of Christ bringing the good news of God’s kingdom. By his gifts and graces, God quickens, enlivens, and governs the body of Christ. We therefore should be one.

Pray:

Lord, help all believers to be one in purpose, to reach out across the world to those who do not yet know you. Amen.

About this Plan

Hope, Justice, And Living Life To The Full

This plan will take you on a journey and is comprised of three sections: having a foundation of hope, understanding God’s passion for justice, and learning to live life to the full. There is also a focus on how these sections relate to poverty. Included are stories of individuals whose lives are being transformed through the local churches in Nepal, Uganda, and Peru.
