Acts: Go & Be Chapters 1-9Sample
What is this passage saying?
The disciples have returned to Jerusalem, waiting for The Holy Spirit as Jesus had commanded them. They are not just sitting idle but united they devote themselves to prayer; prayer and expectance for the things that Jesus promised would come. In the waiting they put forth two names to replace Judas as an apostle. They didn’t take a vote on it, but casted lots an ancient way of seeking out what is the will of the Lord. Matthias was then appointed as the one to replace Judas, but we do not hear of his testimony and life in the book of Acts.
What is this passage teaching?
Waiting on God is not a passive thing, it’s not just sitting around and hoping that you will hear from Him. It’s filled with prayer and meditating on the promises of God. You will see many times throughout the book of Acts where the apostles stop what they are doing to seek God in prayer. What they are looking for is the right decision to make and even so when they had some down time. They actively looked to God in prayer.
How do I respond?
Make prayer a priority in your life when you are waiting on God to show you what is next in your life and make prayer a part of your rest.
