Acts: Go & Be Chapters 1-9Sample

What is this passage saying?
The witnesses to this miracle wanted to give the credit to Peter and John. Peter is quick to remind them that is only by the name of Jesus. Peter then reminds them of their transgressions against Jesus and how they freed a murderer instead. He goes on to say all this must have taken place so that the scriptures would be fulfilled. He tells them to repent for what they have done and now call upon the name of Jesus, the only one who can save them. A great warning is given to the Jews from the mouth of Moses concerning their unbelief and the consequences of it.
What is this passage teaching?
God uses His almighty power to perform signs and wonders that we may see Him in it. We must realize the weight of our sinfulness and turn to Him and repent. Many times, when these wonders happen, we can miss the bigger picture of what is going on because we are so wrapped up with ourselves. The only way we turn from our sin is by first believing in Jesus. If all you seek is deliverance from the punishment of sin, and not the deliverance from sin itself, have you trusted in Jesus or just delight in His wonders?
How do I respond?
Don’t just seek the gifts, seek the giver of the gifts: Jesus Christ.
