DAY 5 OF 21

Faith Up Close

A blind man hears that Jesus is passing by. Desperate to land a breakthrough and finally experience freedom, he begins to cry out, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me in my affliction. Heal me!” He continued to shout this even after being scolded for making a disturbance.

Eventually, He gets the attention of Jesus. Jesus calls him over and asks one question: What do you want me to do for you? What a powerful question for Jesus to ask. But was it a trick question? The man had already shouted his need out, and we can only imagine that Jesus was able to look at him and his condition and determine his need since he was blind. Perhaps Jesus knew exactly what the man needed, but asked just to see if he had the courage to state his request as boldly as he did from a distance.

Asking is easy when you're doing it from a distance. But can your faith rise to the occasion when there's no more distance and you're standing face to face with the One who holds the answer you're seeking? The only reason the man’s sight was restored is because he had the faith to ask again.

You've been praying and believing for something—or some things—from a distance. You've been shouting out your requests boldly and desperately. Today, you're closer than you've ever been to Jesus asking you, “What can I do for you?” When he asks, may your faith rise to the occasion.

Prayer: Dear God, I come boldly before your throne today, making my requests known. Thank you for giving me the access to exercise my faith up close; I trust you to honor my faith by meeting my needs. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
