DAY 4 OF 10

Live In Remembrance

As people age, some find themselves becoming more absent-minded, forgetting important tasks and dates, or simply not having that capacity to remember details as clearly as before. However, forgetfulness does not just plague the old, but also the young. It comes not only as a result of ageing, but can possibly reflect the value we place in what we choose not to remember.

In today’s passage, Jeremiah remembers God’s mighty works towards the Israelites – how He rescued them powerfully out of Egypt and kept His word to bring them to the Promise Land. The journey they took was fraught with challenges because of Israel’s repeated apostasy. Through it all, God showed unwavering faithfulness and long-suffering patience towards their obstinance. He forgave and restored them, time and again. But even after bringing the Israelites into the Promise Land and allowing them to triumph against their enemies, they turned their back on God once again, resulting in the impending judgement God would send through the Babylonians.

How could they? Don’t they remember what God had done for them?! When we read about the Israelites and their disobedience towards God, we may feel indignant and frustrated. Truth be told, we can be far more like the Israelites than we would like to admit. We do the exact same thing to God. We can be especially forgetful about the goodness and faithfulness of God in our lives. God may have brought us through a trial, answered our prayers but within the next few days, these are easily forgotten. As time goes by, we tend to forget God’s involvement in our lives, especially if He works in less obvious ways.

Today, you need to remember to remember. Take time to think back on what the Lord has done for you since you came to know Him. How He rescued you from sin when you deserved to die, graciously gave you this living relationship with Him, provided for you in miraculous ways, comforted you with His presence and love in moments of weaknesses and brokenness. How have you responded to God all these times? Are you more like the Israelites than you would like to admit?

As we seek God for revival, we should begin with gratitude in remembrance. We fight spiritual amnesia by living in remembrance of God’s goodness and faithfulness in our lives, through all that Christ has done for us on the Cross.

"God, help me remember Your faithfulness and goodness that You have demonstrated through Your Son, Jesus Christ, on the Cross and let me not forget what You have done for us in our lives."

About this Plan

Alt Ctrl Del: Resetting Our Heartware

We live in a world with challenges, distractions and temptations. All of these can dull our spiritual senses and draw us further, rather than closer to Christ. Just as how we press “CTRL ALT DELETE” to reboot our computer from time to time, we also need to ask God to reset our heartware, refresh us spiritually and reignite our passion for Him. Journey with us through Jeremiah 32 and experience God’s heart for restoration and reconciliation with His people anew.
