Daily PresenceSample
For years and years of my life, all I wanted was to be done with school. School, though a blessing, sometimes felt like a necessary evil. All the long nights trying to write research papers and reading never-ending book after never-ending book. It was exhausting and I was ready to be over it. Sometimes I felt like quitting, but a leader I had once told me to always finish what I start, to never quit midway. Internally, I celebrated when I finished my bachelor's, but I knew in my heart that for me there was another mountain to climb before I was done with school and I could fully celebrate. When I graduated with my master’s degree it finally felt like I had accomplished the goal I worked 25 years for. I can’t describe the weight that was lifted from my shoulders. The feeling of having accomplished such a big task and the excitement of the freedom of being able to do whatever I wanted was incomparable.
I am not comparing myself to Moses, but I think that feeling is the only thing that might resemble what Moses felt when he got the Israelites to the Jordan River. When he went up to Mount Nebo and looked over at the long-awaited promised land. The only thing that was left for the Israelites was to cross over.
I can’t imagine what he might’ve felt hearing these words: “Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” - Deuteronomy 34:4
We can think that Moses did not accomplish his task. That it was mean of God to show Moses the promised land, but not allow him to go into it. At the end of the day, I believe that for Moses, simply seeing the promised land was as good as a good and faithful servant. Despite that, the life of those who follow Jesus is not about a destination, it's about a journey. More important than that, it's about who we do the Journey with. Jesus Christ. The chapter ends by saying that Moses knew the Lord face to face. That is our goal. That is what we as followers of Jesus should seek to do every day of our lives. To know God face to face and have a relationship with His son Jesus Christ.
