Walking in the Light

My wife and I have two children. In the course of their school and college years, their values have been tested several times. After all, we live in a dark and deceived world, where the principles of right and wrong are often grey areas to many. For instance, cheating in a minor class test seems okay to many people; succumbing to peer pressure is the norm, unless you want to be treated like an extra terrestrial being. So when both our children put their foot down and decided to pursue the path of truth and righteousness, it was an obvious time of celebration and joy for us as parents.
But walking in the truth can sometimes land you in a sticky situation. One year, we had to contend with such a situation. The school changed its holiday calendar, after we had already planned our family vacation. We now had to write to the school authorities telling them about our travel plan; it would mean our children’s grades would be adversely affected. It seemed like the only way out was to lie, and give the school some credibly ‘serious’ reason, so that their grades wouldn’t take a hit. We did get a number of suggestions on how to wriggle out of this situation but our children stood firm, and again made us proud, by choosing the path of truth.
Isn’t it a joy to see your children being the light in a dark world and impacting their friends?
If you haven’t seen this happen yet in your children’s lives, remember what the Word of God says, Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). The Word of God is true. Hold on, and you will see it come to pass!

Prayer
Father God, we may seem queer to the people of this world, but we want to be a strong light to guide people out of darkness and into Your light. We pray that our children would be guided by wisdom and understanding from You, and learn to walk in truth. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
