A Man After God’s Own Heart

All who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior are covered by His blood. Apart from being saved, we also enjoy the fullness of life and we’re protected by His covering. Even though we have this assurance of being saved, we still face trials or difficult times, like illnesses or accidents and then wonder if God is still with us. We may not want to consider the fact that the difficult times we face may be of our own making.
Two points catch my attention as I read this scripture. Firstly, the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, after which an evil spirit tormented him. Secondly, Saul’s life was protected by God till he chose to move out of God’s covering through disobedience, causing the evil spirit to trouble him. But the bigger lesson I learned was how God made sure there was someone like David to take over. David was the new missionary for God’s plans.
Sure David had to wait for many years before he became king, but God saw him as someone who was after His own heart and God put David on track to become one of Israel’s greatest kings. God’s will or plans are not dependent on any man. He can use anyone. Saul had a golden opportunity, but he cast it away. David chose to be faithful and totally dependent on God, and God was with him all the way.

Dear Father, thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. I know You have great plans for me and I don’t want to stray away from Your calling. Keep me focused and dependent on You always and let me be a man after Your own heart. Amen.
