Thankfulness Rules My Heart

When Jehoshaphat found out that a large army was coming against Jerusalem, he was fearful. He had just had a near death experience in the battle of Ramoth-Gilead. So, in his flesh, this was the most natural response. But he didn’t let this fear rule his heart. Instead, he immediately took this fear and went before the Lord and fasted and prayed. He listed all the good things God had done for the people of Jerusalem. How He had been with them every step of the way. Then, in his helplessness, he said that even though they didn’t know what to do, they would look to God.
Immediately after Jehoshaphat and the people prayed, the Lord spoke through Jaheziel, saying, Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s (2 Chronicles 20:15b NIV). And truly, as they turned from fear and praised and worshipped God, with thankfulness in their hearts, the Lord fought their battle for them and won.
Today, God promises us too a sweat-less victory. Our victory has already been won at the cross, where Jesus died more than 2000 years ago. Now let’s enter His rest and praise Him. Let’s sit back and watch Him fight for us. No matter how bleak our circumstance, our God is always faithful. Let us not allow fear and anxiety to steal the victory that rightfully belongs to us. Today, let’s choose to allow thankfulness to rule our hearts.

Father, though I may not see any solution to my problem today, I choose to look to You. I know that victory is mine through Christ Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
