He’s Always Close

Recently, I was faced with a big disappointment, where situations did not go as I had planned. When I realized how far things had deviated from my initial plan, I immediately got upset. I allowed these feelings to overwhelm me and pretty soon I was experiencing what the psalmist spoke of, ‘a crushed spirit’. It showed me, how difficult it is to see anything else other than frustration and sadness in your moments of disappointment.
During that time, as I was praying and reading the Bible, I came across this verse, and it immediately ministered to my heart and the circumstance I was in. Here I was, wallowing in anger at not getting my way, but even in those moments, God wanted to be with me. He was extending His saving arm. The Message Bible translation of the verse reads, If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, He’ll help you catch your breath.
I immediately felt His presence strongly and was reminded that His care and love for me is stronger than my problems. What an amazing reminder, that in your worst moments, when your heart is broken and nothing seems to be working out, that’s where you will surely find God!
Today, I would like to encourage you. When your condition looks insurmountable, and the night seems darkest, that is when you should search for (and you will surely find) God. Looking for comfort in anything or anyone else will surely be a futile pursuit. Instead, trust in the One who has perfect plans for your life (Jeremiah 29:11).

Father, I know that in my pain and frustration, I can turn to You. You are my only comfort and I thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
