Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
Pillion Riding
Riding to work one day, I noticed a shop by the side of the road, selling certain items I had been looking for. I suddenly realized that even though I rode this way to work every day and knew where each pothole and speed-breaker was situated, I had been missing out on the surroundings.
Sometimes, that’s how we go through life. We get to a certain point with no recollection of how we got there. We’re so careful to watch the road for potholes, but we completely miss the scenery. God repeatedly says in His Word that He will lead us, never forsake us, keep us safe and get us to our destination (Matthew 28:20b).
But we need to be willing to let go of the driver’s seat. We feel it’s easier to be driving, so we can control our lives and know when to duck and when to brace ourselves. When I’m with my dad, I know I don’t have to worry about his driving skills. I can just sit back and enjoy the road. And if there’s a pothole, he will evade it or take me gently through it.
God is an even better driver. He’s made the road and He will lead us home. We don’t need to focus on the problems or figure out how to escape them. But we need to make a conscious choice to remain in His presence and let Him be the driver of our lives. God has made the way beautiful for us and we need to just sit back and enjoy the ride. When the road gets bumpy, His hand of protection is on us. When the road is clear, we can cruise along and enjoy His sunshine.
Prayer
Lord, I consciously choose to not try to be the driver of my life. Give me the grace and strength to let go and give You complete control. Amen.
