Set Free and Forgiven

I’m reminded of the story of little Sarah. The curious seven-year-old was enjoying her playtime when she caught sight of her mother’s sparkling porcelain kettle on the kitchen shelf. Thinking that it would make a great addition to her kitchen set, she reached up to get it. Unfortunately, while bringing it down, the kettle slipped out of her little hands and crashed into what seemed like a million pieces. She was scared and angry at herself for disobeying her mother. She knew she was in for trouble. So she decided to clear up the mess and not breathe a word about it to her mother. But when evening came and her mother got home from work, Sarah felt restless and sad. She couldn’t keep the secret hidden any longer and was ready to face the consequences. She told her mother about the incident, and to her surprise, her mother immediately forgave her because of her confession. Sarah may have been just a little girl, but she knew that hiding her sin wouldn’t solve the problem; it would only steal her peace and joy.
Proverbs 28:13 says, He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Confession simply means to humble ourselves, acknowledge our sin and repent. Sin often interrupts our relationship with God. God loves us but he doesn’t like the sin within us. Because He is Holy, He wants His children to be like Him. Often we deliberately go on sinning, because we don’t want to repent and turn from our ways. But that’s a dangerous place to be. It leads to the destruction of our soul.
Remember, no sin is too big for God to forgive. Jesus’ death on the cross paid for your sin (all of it), once and for all. His perfect sacrifice has made you holy. Don’t allow un-confessed sin to corrupt what God has made holy. Just come before God with a repentant heart, and as He promises, He is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness.

Prayer
Father God, I confess and uproot the sin that hinders me from being close to You. I desire to walk in the abundance You have for me. Forgive me and cleanse me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
