[Speak the Name] the Name of JesusSample
Power and Authority
In Jesus’ name we find power. It’s in Him, and in His name, that we find our authority.
A few years ago, during a church service, there were cries for deliverance. I was led to a girl who was lying on the floor. She was manifesting a demon. I bent down and called her by name. She lunged forward, and the thing inside of her, binding her, yelled, “She’s mine.” I declared, “No. She is not yours, in the name of Jesus.” Scary stuff, right? But really, perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). That girl needed to know Jesus’ love; we declared it over her. There are times when you must speak the name of Jesus into a situation to bring deliverance and healing. Signs and wonders are performed in His name (Acts 4:30).
Do you ever question God’s ability to still heal? Maybe you grew up in a tradition that says God doesn’t do those things anymore. Ask the Lord to remove the scales from your eyes. Read James 5, Joel 2, and the whole book of Acts. It’s in Jesus’ name that we find healing. Does this mean that He always heals us? No, it doesn’t. He’s not a drive-thru God where we put an order in and demand our way. Does that make Him any less God, any less powerful, any less righteous, any less able to heal? No. He’s always good. In Jesus, and in His name, we find everything we need for life and godliness.
A friend told my wife Kelly and I a story about when he was in a car accident. He felt like God just stopped time for him; he was looking around and everything was just standing still. That was when he encountered our supernatural, amazing God. That was when he became a Christian. God used our friend’s story to push the ignition, the gas pedal on our life, to say to my wife and I, “You’re not called to comfort; you’re called to crucifixion. You’re not called to natural; you’re called to supernatural.”
The Spirit of God that raised Jesus from the dead, that is deposited in you and in me at the point of submission and surrender to Jesus, is for far more than just existence. I don’t want to just exist; I want real, abundant life.
Lord Jesus, help me to live the way You have called me to live, with power, authority, godliness, and love.
