Parasha Minute: Genesis / BreisheetSample
"From Pain to Laughter"
The highest point of brokenness is when one usually sees Adonai best. At the oaks of Mamre, Avraham saw three men, angels or Elohim--Father, Son & Spirit? It was at the hottest time of day, but despite this discomfort, Avraham ran to meet them. He prostrated himself on the ground and hurriedly made preparations to welcome them. While eating, one of the men declared that the same time next year, Sarah would finally have a son. She laughed unbelievingly while Abraham laughed joyfully, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?" Adonai insisted, "You will bear a son and call him Yitz'chak (laughter). We later know that Avraham and Sarah’s joy became God’s last laugh. Reflection / Prayer: Adonai, is there anything too hard for You? You know all things and yet You accomplish the impossible in our lives and give it to us as gifts of Your joy. Thank You for laughing with us.
