Women of the Bible

DAY 30 OF 30

Anna

Devoted. Anna was the daughter of Penuel, which means "face of God," and they were from the tribe of Asher, which means "happy and blessed." Out of the 12 tribes of Israel, Asher was given some of the most fertile lands, which could bring physical blessings. The name Anna means "favored." Your perspective and priorities will determine whether you see these things as true in her life.

Luke 2 tells us that Anna was a widow and a prophetess who prayed, fasted, and worshipped day and night in the temple of God. Some say for 60 years. She never remarried. Despite coming from such a "favored" beginning, Anna had no home of her own, no family, and no job. Instead, her surrender to God led to rich spiritual blessings.

When Simeon recognized and spoke that the infant, Jesus, was the coming Savior Anna knew and spoke up, too. Her time spent in prayer, fasting, and worship allowed her to not only see the "face of God" in the spiritual realm but translated into her recognizing Him in the physical realm. The Lord was faithful to richly provide for her in both respects.

1. Are you devoted to practicing His presence?

2. Will you choose spiritual blessings over physical, yet trust Him with both?

Prayer: Lord, may I surrender to seeing and living life through your perspective as I prepare to meet you face-to-face.

Day 29

About this Plan

Women of the Bible

Eve and Mary may be the most well-known in Scripture, but the Bible is chock-full of women with rich character, bold faith, and powerful testimonies. Join us as we briefly study 30 “Women of the Bible” and learn about the ways God used them, sustained them, emboldened them, and provided for them. Women have been a part of God’s plan from the Garden of Eden until the present day. We pray your faith is encouraged and strengthened by spending some time getting to know these women’s accounts.
