Women of the BibleSample
Phoebe
Phoebe is mentioned only once in the Bible, but there is a lot to unpack in her account. To give some background, Phoebe played a part in delivering Paul's letter to Rome (Romans).
One of the first things Paul pointed out about Phoebe was her faith. He called her sister and instructed that she be received in the Lord in a way worthy of His people. It's not accidental that he mentioned this first. Her salvation marked her, just as our salvation should mark us.
Paul also honored Phoebe for her service to the Church. He explained that she was a deacon, recounting how she had served faithfully. Additionally, he mentioned she was a benefactor to many, including Paul himself. To be a benefactor meant that Phoebe was someone who used her resources to provide help to others. This was further proof of her devotion and service to the Church.
We can learn so much from Phoebe. Her faith was mentioned first and foremost, and she was honored for her service. Phoebe is a beautiful example to women still today and a beautiful reminder that women play an essential role within the Church and in spreading the Gospel!

About this Plan
Eve and Mary may be the most well-known in Scripture, but the Bible is chock-full of women with rich character, bold faith, and powerful testimonies. Join us as we briefly study 30 “Women of the Bible” and learn about the ways God used them, sustained them, emboldened them, and provided for them. Women have been a part of God’s plan from the Garden of Eden until the present day. We pray your faith is encouraged and strengthened by spending some time getting to know these women’s accounts.
