Advent in Exile - Christmas Longing With IsaiahSample
Isaiah, (740-700 BC) prophesied to a people who were “deaf and blind,” He clearly set forth that the Christ was not famous, was not special, was not politically powerful; instead, Jesus entered the world as a babe, ministered to the lost, all the while surrounded by unbelievers and those who wished to silence Him. He experienced indescribable suffering, when the Father laid on Him the sins of the world, yet, He “opened not His mouth”, against those who hated Him. His sacrifice brought us peace and imputed His righteousness to us, yet we “go astray….like sheep”. Deep in our soul, we have a strong tendency to believe that living a good life, loving and serving others “helps” in our salvation.
In Ps 40, King David gives an examples to us about how to “wait” on the Lord; He will strengthen us; He will dispel anxiety and depression and place peace and happiness in our heart, a new song in our lives, if only we steep ourselves in gratitude and recognize our helplessness, for the grace so freely given to those who accept Jesus Christ as King to their lives, as Lord of their lives. We must take ourselves off our own throne.
