How Christians Can Celebrate Chanukah

DAY 4 OF 8

"Celebrating Chanukah – 4th Night"

God has made His wonders to be remembered (Psalm 111:4). We will remember.

Chanukah looks back and remembers a time when great darkness descended upon the nation of Israel. Antiochus IV took over the Temple, desecrated it, and violently tried to force Jews to worship false gods. Through a miracle of God’s provision, the Jewish people overcame the evil of the time and reclaimed the Temple for worship of the one true God.

Tonight, the Chanukah lampstand will shine with four Chanukah candles. In Messianic Judaism, we find additional meaning in this Festival of Lights. As the Servant Candle sets aflame the four Chanukah candles, we say the Chanukah blessings and read Scriptures of the New Covenant about the Light that was given to all humanity – Yeshua (Jesus). We rejoice in the Light that overcomes all darkness.

Chanukah Blessings

Blessed are You, LORD, our God, king of the universe, Who has sanctified us by His commandments and has given us Yeshua the Messiah, the light of the world.

Blessed are You, LORD, our God, king of the universe, Who has performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time.

Light Overcoming Darkness

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it” (John 1:5 TLV).

“These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have shalom. In the world, you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33 TLV)

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21 TLV).

Yeshua, You have overcome the world, and even death itself. Because You are light and You have overcome all darkness, we can walk in Your light with the perfect shalom (peace) You give. Because of You, Yeshua, we can overcome evil with good, and darkness with Your light. Thank you.

Thank you, Father, for giving us the Light of the World that shines to chase away the darkness - Yeshua.
