MŌRIAH - Am I Known, Seen, Loved?Sample
Worth
In a grocery store parking lot, under the Tennessee star-filled sky, I played a demo called "Worth" through the car speakers for my husband. At the end of the song, through glistening eyes, he asked, "Can you play it again?" Joel has always been my champion, but this song's message deeply resonated with him. These are our collective thoughts on how accepting God-given worthiness can change our daily and eternal existence.
Lyric: Your love rescues me from wreckage and you promise, I am precious. (Credit: Moriah Smallbone, “Curtain Call” EP)
What do you do when you're at an all-time low? When the veneer version of yourself finally shatters on the floor? It takes a supernatural, superhuman Spirit to gently remake us and remind us how necessary and beautiful every crack, scratch, and score is. We are worthy, even in our messes, of great love and great sacrifice.
To be clear, leaning on others amidst pain is crucial to living in community. And our communion with Jesus can be found in our connection with others. We're promised this in Matthew 18, "...when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there." But do you go to this unseen, unlimited source of love first or as a last resort? Like a child who runs to his mother after falling and scraping his knee, how can we experience this instantaneous trust and dependence on God?
When I asked my husband why "Worth" impacted him so much, his response was, "Because identity is the greatest struggle of our modern time. This song refocuses where our identity is found and where our worth lies. It is such a primal heart cry for all of us."
Intention:
Find a moment to look in the mirror today and say this prayer aloud three times: "Father, by your strength, I replace the narrative that says I'm unlovable with your voice that promises I'm invaluable. I am worth it."
