Philippians: A Life in ChristSample

Philippians: A Life in Christ

DAY 2 OF 14

Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians when he was under house arrest in Rome. We see his love and care for them at the start of the letter and throughout. There’s a deep emotional connection between them.

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:3-6)

Paul’s trust that God would guide the Philippians and protect them even when he was in prison at a distance, should also encourage us to do the same when we’re in a time of crisis. When he couldn’t be with them, Paul still prayed with joy to the God who he knew was invested in their ministry.

During the global pandemic, it became harder to maintain relationships. We sat staring at our computer screens trying to connect with others. Wars and humanitarian crises have left many of us feeling helpless and weak.

In times of hardship and suffering, Paul encourages us at the start of his letter to the Philippians that we can be confident that the one who began the good work in our lives, and the lives of those we care for, will continue to grow his kingdom until the day of Christ Jesus.

How might this confidence affect your life and your day-to-day relationships?
