Lead as If... Leading With Eternal PerspectiveSample
Lead as if….
You are equipping someone to replace you.
No leader in history was better than Jesus at preparing his team to do the organization’s work (the ministry in His case). We have all known great coaches in sports history who have developed younger coaches to move on and eventually become head coaches of their teams. A coaching tree has many branches, and if the head coach is leading effectively, he/she has diligently equipped the next generation of leaders.
Most leaders understand the concept of growth and exponential multiplication. Whether in business, sports, or ministry, it is essential to consider equipping others with leadership potential to become a branch of our expanding leadership tree. In scripture, we see Jesus encouraging Peter to walk by faith, not sight. Jesus casts a vision for Peter’s potential by declaring that he would be the church’s rock.
We must verbally empower our leaders to see what we see in them. Sometimes we have to delegate and direct their journey in ways that entrust more responsibility. Sometimes we have to see more in them than they see in themselves. Jesus commanded the disciples to cast out demons and to rebuke storms (even though they weren’t capable of that kind of faith at the moment). As we nudge young leaders into waters that may be currently beyond their depth and capacity, we infuse courage and confidence that create the aptitude for optimal leadership.
