Lead as If... Leading With Eternal Perspective

DAY 1 OF 5

The Big Picture

As kids, many of us can relate to the land of “make-believe” and pretending to be one of our childhood heroes. For me, it was my favorite professional baseball player up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two outs, and my team losing by three runs. Of course, my fantasy is that I would hit a grand slam home run to win the game in the contest’s final moments. In the here-and-now, the hypothetical of that futuristic moment as a hero of my own story significantly impacted my preparation and perspective in real time. As leaders, I’m curious if we would conduct ourselves differently (better and more intentional) if we considered a futuristic evaluation or recollection of our leadership.

Too many of us aspire for a leadership role solely to obtain a formal position of influence and status. Too often, misguided motivation leads us to a pursuit of money, power, and fame that reinforces a title on a business card or an email signature. What if we led AS IF there were eternal ramifications or permanent effects on the lives of the people we lead? What if we approached our position of leadership and influence AS IF God was watching how we steward our opportunity? Many of us would execute our coaching more selflessly, seriously, and intentionally.

What if we see a bigger picture? What if it’s not about us? What if we lead with a philosophy that sees beyond a financial balance sheet or a corporate ladder? If we address these questions with a Kingdom-minded perspective, I believe the world will look and function closer to the way God intended. I believe we change the world for the better if we step outside ourselves and our agendas. It is our duty to create a leadership landscape that honors our creator and the people we serve.

This Bible plan will provide a different lens through which to view the mantle and charge of leadership that we should humbly accept. I pray for all who read this to find more clarity in servant leadership and team engagement. The hope is that we establish a new perspective as we embark on this journey to impact people, corporations, and communities.
