Through the Bible: HebrewsSample
The Anchor of Our Soul
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20 (ESV)
Anchors are essential and, like weights, secure a boat or vessel in position. The anchor is deployed during rough weather to avoid dangerous accidents caused by strong winds and waves that may cause the ship to drift away, hitting rocks or unseen obstructions. What a powerful reminder to each one of us as God’s children that whatever challenging journeys in life we may face, Jesus is our anchor and our hope in all. When the enemy’s lies invade our hearts or fear overwhelms our vision and terrifying giants in our midst surround us, we are secured by this one truth, Jesus holds us safe and firmly in His finished work, and we will not be destroyed. Hope in Christ means that we know the battle is already won. Jesus is King! Christ, our great High Priest, our Perfect Redeemer! Through His precious blood, we can approach God’s throne of grace with humble confidence to receive mercy and grace in times of need.
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You for Your redeeming love through Jesus Christ. May our lives continually be anchored in Your perfected grace. May we be a people of hope bearing witness to Your faithfulness and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
About this Plan
Written to Jewish Christians who were persecuted and tempted to return to Mosaic Law, the author reinforced the superiority of Christ over all Jewish practices. By faith in Jesus, who is greater than angels and Moses, we have a better high priest, covenant, hope, and sacrifice before God. Are you placing anything or anyone above Jesus? Let us realign our focus onto Jesus, the founder, and perfecter of our faith.
