Through the Bible: Hebrews

DAY 1 OF 4

Choose Not To Be A Rebel

As has just been said, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:15 (NIV)

This scripture refers to how the Israelites, led by Moses through the wilderness, did not obey the command of God. Their sin kept them from pleasing God, and therefore none of the Israelites who left Egypt were able to enter the Promised Land.

As children of God, this is a stark reminder that after having experienced and tasted the love of God, we continue to sin; we are rebels. This is fairly strong language, but in essence, that is what it is. If we hear God’s voice but choose not to obey, we are, in effect, choosing to disobey. That is nothing but rebellion.

Why should we trust and obey this God? We see in Chapter 4 how Jesus, the son of God, isn’t someone who doesn’t care about us. Instead, He has gone through everything that we are going through and still stands tall without any sin in Him. He understands our weaknesses and can strengthen us even today if only we are willing to obey and trust Him and not choose to rebel.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to wilfully choose to obey Your word, follow Your command and not rebel against You by choosing to disobey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Hebrews

Written to Jewish Christians who were persecuted and tempted to return to Mosaic Law, the author reinforced the superiority of Christ over all Jewish practices. By faith in Jesus, who is greater than angels and Moses, we have a better high priest, covenant, hope, and sacrifice before God. Are you placing anything or anyone above Jesus? Let us realign our focus onto Jesus, the founder, and perfecter of our faith.
